Responsibilities
- Develop new customers and business opportunities for the organisation.
- Maintain and grow relationships with existing and potential customers.
- Understand customers' import, export and logistics requirements.
- Conduct customer visits, discussions and business presentations where required.
- Follow up on enquiries and convert suitable opportunities into business.
- Coordinate internally to ensure commercial commitments can be operationally delivered.
- Understand and coordinate logistics services such as freight forwarding, ocean freight, air freight (where applicable), customs clearance, customs agent appointment, import and export procedures, container haulage, transportation, warehousing, shipping documentation and shipment coordination; personal execution of every operational task is not required, but sufficient understanding of the workflow is needed to coordinate the job properly.
- Prepare and review customer quotations.
- Obtain and compare supplier quotations.
- Source suitable shipping lines, hauliers, transporters, warehouses or other logistics suppliers.
- Negotiate commercial terms with suppliers where required.
- Work with operations and finance teams on costing.
- Ensure quotations include the necessary charges and appropriate commercial margin.
- Understand customer billing requirements.
- Coordinate billing information and supporting documents.
- Follow up on commercial or operational discrepancies.
- Assist management in evaluating new business opportunities.
- Coordinate between customers, internal departments and external suppliers.
- Ensure operational requirements are properly communicated before execution.
- Monitor important shipments or projects.
- Resolve operational problems together with the responsible departments.
- Ensure customer commitments are realistic and achievable.
- Follow through from enquiry and quotation until operational completion and billing.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade or a related field; candidates with equivalent relevant industry experience will also be considered.
- Preferably at least 5 years of relevant working experience in logistics, freight forwarding or related industries; candidates with strong forwarding, customs or commercial coordination experience will be preferred, and an existing customer network or business development track record will be an advantage.
- Practical understanding of most of the following: freight forwarding workflow, import and export procedures, customs clearance, customs agent appointment/coordination, shipping documentation, ocean freight, container haulage and transportation, warehousing or delivery coordination, supplier sourcing, freight and logistics costing, customer quotation, and billing requirements.
- Understands logistics operations rather than only selling freight rates.
- Commercially minded and understands costing and margin.
- Able to communicate confidently with customers and suppliers.
- Able to coordinate multiple parties and follow through until completion.
- Good problem-solving ability.
- Able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Understands the importance of service quality and customer retention.
- Is responsible for commitments made to customers.
- Able to identify operational risks before confirming a job.
- Comfortable handling quotations, costing and supplier negotiations.
- Languages: English, Bahasa Malaysia.
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm.
- Willing to work in Taman Bayu Perdana, Klang.
- Willing to travel for client visits and business meetings as required.
